Chashama organization is always looking for unique, innovative, and provocative art to exhibit at its multiple locations around New York City. Last night Chashama surprised us with an outstanding exhibit centered around recycled materials transformed into art. Considered garbage and recycled waste: plastic bags, laundry detergent bottles, oil bottles, scrap metal, food containers, packing materials, fabric softener bottles and more are valuable art subjects for these creators. They prefer to create aesthetically pleasing artworks out of something normally cast aside, transforming the whole concept of trash as waste into a striking medium. For decades, artists from across the globe have been using scrap materials to build fantastic sculpture works, transforming in our minds the old concept of seeing garbage as garbage, when it is perfectly capable of being recycled into something handsome. The Chashama exhibit embodied this concept perfectly, and was a joy to experience.
