Dear Community:
I want to start off by saying: we hear you. Thank you for speaking out about the recent National Peanut Board (NPB) advertisement in USA Today. We share your concerns and agree that the tone and language used in the ad was misguided and dismissive of those struggling with life-threatening food allergies. FARE had no knowledge of the ad in advance and did not give NPB permission to use our name in it. In fact, as soon as we became aware of the ad we reached out to NPB to express our disappointment. We shared your stories with them, including this one from Trish Gavankar, and we shared this essay from Dr. Gianine D. Rosenblum, PhD that so pointedly outlined the risks that someone with a food allergy faces. We think it’s important to use this moment as an opportunity to educate about the severity of food allergy and anaphylaxis. We very much appreciate the passion of our community and look forward to continuing the conversation together to driving greater awareness of food allergies.
