Sakura Park has a rich history and a very intriguing one. Original was part of the Riverside Park and it was a kind of proposal from William R. Martin who was the park commissioner in 1865. Nothing happened until 1872 when a serious conceptual plan was designed for real by Frederick Law Olmsted. After the first plan, a series of very talented designers came up with many plans to built the landscape to embellish that part of the Hudson River whom had so much beauty along the way. From 1875 to 1910, Calvert Vaux and Samuel Parsons came with very attractive designs for the curve of the river, trying to make it original and beautiful since New York was already an important place for business and singular neighborhood for the rich and powerful. In the beginning, the plan was from 72nd street to 125th street, however, it was extended to 155th street. The rustic viaduct made out of stone mimic a castle-like creating the border. The whole project took over 50 years to built. Sakura Park remais as an important part of this project been not only part of important landscape also a family park for the residents what it became an important landmark in 1980.
Riverside is probably one of the most beautiful, fine and quite neighborhoods in Manhattan.
The cocktail reception was a relaxing and pleasant one with a 75 degrees sunny evening and very low humidity was the picture perfect for a party outdoors. Sakura Park is an elevated park and it was, of course the venue for this fun evening. At the center of the park is a kiosk where the band was situated to enrich the party with famous songs from 1930's and 1940's. A variety of delicious finger food for the attendees to enjoy as well as top shelf fancy beverages to enjoy.
The amusing presence of Mr. Green greeting guests at the entrance added to the nights fun.
